Sewing machines literally have been in existence for hundreds of years. There really are thousands of different styles and brands available to everyone from home hobbyist to industrial sewing shops. The sewing machine isn't the only thing that is important when you are getting into the sewing hobby, there are accessories such as tables, table extenders, cabinets that are needed to make things flow smoothly.

Sewing Essential Gadgets

If you do any sewing it all, you must have some sort of box or sewing cabinet to keep all of your materials in. The main reason that a box is nice for many people is that they often use the kitchen table as a sewing table. With a good sized sewing box, you literally can pull out everything you need, put it on the table and pack it back up when you are done.

If you have a designated sewing area, it is best to get a sewing cabinet. If you have never heard about a sewing cabinet before, it's basically a sewing table with a folding cabinet underneath. This allows the cabinets to be closed when not in use, which will hide a lot of the clutter inside. Notice I said clutter, it is almost impossible to keep organized when you have so many different types of bobbins, needles and patterns, but you really should try.

For organization, I use two sewing boxes. One has all of my extra material that I use for edging and different scraps and another holds my bobbins, threads, patterns and needles.

Another main advantage of a sewing cabinet is that it keeps everything in your kit clean and free from dust. Dust is a major killer when it comes to sewing machines. The dust will collect on the oiled machine parts inside and really cause havoc.

Sewing Table Reminders

One thing you have to keep in mind when buying a sewing table is that it is big enough for your projects. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people trying to sew on tables that are just way too small for their projects.

When you have a table that is too small, you actually have a large portion of the material overhanging the table. This causes the fabric to tug and pull. This is one of the major reasons that you get stitches that are wandering all over the place. Something as simple as the right table size can really give your lines the accuracy that you would like.

Many people like the type of sewing tables that have an area where the sewing machine is recessed. I do not like these units. I find that when my machine needs to go in for service(regular cleaning etc), it's just too hard to remove the actual machine from the table. I instead just use dust covers. Sure it may not look as "elegant" as a fold down table, but it's less of a hassle all around.

There are literally thousands of sewing machines (leather sewing machine, quilting machines etc), gadgets, accessories, books and everything under the sun that will help you create a better product. Listed above are the main tools that you will need if you wish to get into sewing and keep your sanity!

A personal Product Review  (Which shoe is best for you)

I was looking for some shoes to wear for Zumba class.  I didn’t want to wear running shoes because they are so cumbersome.  Many of the zumba instructors had on dance sneakers.  I went looking on line for a pair that I liked.  I tried the Nike Musique but they were too stiff.  I found Skazz Dance Sneakers  which I bought off of Amazon.  They are also known as Sansha Blitz 3. 

They are extremely comfortable not too bulky.  The only other shoe I found as comfortable as these were Asics.  I do have Capezio dance sneakers as well and they are also good for Zumba classes.  I think dance sneakers are better than running shoes for these kinds of fitness classes.  I feel more stable on dance sneakers than running shoes.  You cannot move the same way in running shoes.

As far as Asics go, I paid $200.00 for my Asics which is probably crazy but these are the best shoes for walking and running for me.  I bought mine because I was going to do the 60kl breast cancer walk and needed a really good pair of shoes.  The other good thing about these shoes is that I could put my orthodics in them without taking out the sole inside and I didn’t have to buy a size bigger than I usually wear.  I have worn these runners for 4 years and they are still in good shape.  I guess I got my monies worth on those.  It is probably time to get a new pair. 

So my pick are Sansha Blitz 3 for fitness classes and Asics for running and walking.

It's wrong to think that newer means advanced, especially when so much of our modern cultural taste seems like it longs for times before it. There's gravity and mystique in vintage, a contradictory yet beautiful combination of exotic and familiar that makes vintage so appealing. This especially is true for vintage fashion.
Dealers are getting increased demand for vintage clothing, or unique clothes from 20s to the 80s. Collectors and enthusiasts are looking for everything from flapper dresses, to poodle skirts, to 70s evening gowns. These garments can be for private collections, special events, or even to add to a personal wardrobe! There are a few reasons why vintage clothes have found such an established market, and those reasons are reliability and style.
Many vintage clothing pieces were made to last, which is a quality that modern clothing simply does not possess. A little known fact, the oldest known shoe from history was found on Otzi the Ice Man from 3300 BC when the archeologists dug him up. Of course they were worse for wear given the timeframe.
The Lotus shoe from China, which was only about 3 inches in length, were worn by Chinese women and achieved by binding their feet, ouch. This was supposed to be for their own good for fashion sake said the sadistic men of the time. Right.
How many of you have watched the Wizard of Oz? I guess the real question would be has anyone not watched it? In my lifetime I think it has probably been aired 4,560 times. OK, I'm not that old but they have beaten that old horse to death (or in this case the wicked old witch of the west). You already know what I am going to say next. The darling of the cinema, Dorothy (Judy Garland) donned those magical ruby slippers where all she had to do was click them to get from OZ back to Kansas. I wonder why she didn't just do that in the first place? I sure wish I had a pair of those. I would surely save on frequent flyer mileage. I'd be in Aruba in two clicks.
Marilyn Monroe could arguably been famous for her shoes but who knew? No one ever looked at Marilyn's feet because she was the epitome of sex. She oozed it out of her pores. Certainly none of the men noticed because they couldn't tear their eyes away from.....other glaringly obvious curves. Now, there was a woman I would have emulated had I been from that era. I don't think I could leave out Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy for their classy contributions to society and fashion of that period.
Let us now cruise to the sixties and seventies, yeah baby! Shag me! Remember Nancy Sinatra and her white knee-high 'go-go' boots? They were too cool. They were made for dancing.... and kicking. You know...like in her song. You just knew that Nancy wasn't going to put up with any crap.
Anyone remember the series Dallas? Those ladies of Texas sure knew how to dress to the nines! Just going to the grocery store they had to put on their full-length sequined dresses, furs, outrageous bold jewelry and rhinestone high heels. It must have been exhausting for those poor little rich women. It probably took them at least two hours to get all of that mousse sculpted into their hair-dos. Those were the days of the Bold and the Beautiful.
Now we're into the nineties and Sex in the City series is being aired on HBO. First it was the series, then the movies followed. Carrie Bradshaw and her gaggle of ladies in tow were all kicking it with the high stilettos and pumps that are famous today, they paved the road for the high-stepping ladies of today.
We are women, hear us roar (or meow). This has been my version of walking down the memory lane of famous shoes of history. You may have your own versions and I welcome that. At least we can be assured that high heels will never go out of style as long as there are plenty of 'leg' men out there!
